Strong diffuse/synaptic-type immunostaining is noticed throughout the bulbus, forebrain and cerebellum. The staining is less intense in the globus pallidus. Moderate-weak diffuse/synaptic-type immunostaining is noticed in the brainstem. In the pons, it is stronger in the periaqueductal gray matter and in the colliculus superior. In the medulla it is stronger around the fourth ventricle, parabrachial-locus coeruleus region and in the nucleus tractus solitarii.
In addition, moderate-intensity cytoplasmic somatic neuronal immunostaining is noticed in the mitral cells in the bulbus, in the colliculus inferior and in sparse cell bodies throughout the medulla.
