Broad and general moderate-strong intensity immunostaining of microglial cells throughout the entire forebrain. This stainig is less intense (weak) in the upper (I-III) layers of neocortex and in the thalamus.
In the brainstem, the strong microglial immunostaining is more restricted to certain (gray-matter reach) regions, like the periaqueductal gray matter, substantia nigra or the dorsal (periventricular) region of the medulla; however, with less intensity, i9t occurs in all brainstem regions. In the cerebellum, only weak microglial staining is noticed.
In addition, strong somatic (cytoplasmic+nuclear) immunostaining of subsets of neurons is noticed in the lateral septum and in the (anterior and tuberal) hypothalamus.
