Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation allocates 600 million to data-driven life science

On November 7th it was announced that Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation in an initiative to strengthen AI and life science allocates an additional SEK 600 million to data-driven life science including SEK 270 million for the "AlphaCell" pilot project aiming to build AI based cell models and SEK 30 million to extend the Human Protein Atlas program until the year 2030.

In addition to the extension of the HPA program the initiative will make a major investment in the Science for Life Laboratory and HPA hosted pilot project "Alpha Cell" building on the HPA data resource and aiming to use spatial and temporal molecular data to generate AI-based cell and tissue models that can improve understanding of disease relevant cellular core functions such as metabolism and cell division.

Additional investments include SEK 200 million for eleven new recruitment packages within the national research program Data-driven Life Science (DDLS) aiming to recruit internationally leading, young scientists, and also SEK 100 million to microscopy equipment for the Science for Life Laboratory.
